Laura loved the tall grass and the wildflowers that grew on the prairie.

are lilies, anemones, blue violets, goldenrod, morning glories, prairie sunflowers, sheep sorrel, wild roses.


Laura saw yellow plumes of goldenrod in Kansas , many-colored morning glories growing around the dugout on Plum Creek in Minnesota and tiger lilies on the edge of the Big Slough in Dakota Territory . In June Laura saw the wild roses that bloomed pink in the prairie grasses. When she and Almanzo had a baby daughter, they named her Rose.
