When Laura and Mary lived in the Big Woods of Wisconsin, Mary had a rag doll named Nettie, but Laura had only a corncob doll wrapped in a handkerchief. When Laura was four years old, her mother made her a rag doll for Christmas. The beautiful doll had a cloth face, black button eyes and a dress made of pink and blue calico. Laura named her new doll Charlotte . Charlotte traveled with Laura to the Kansas Territory , Plum Creek in Minnesota and to Silver Lake and the Dakota Territory . |
